You may be feeling some achiness and even numbness in your fingers, wrists, and hands. Like many other tissues in your body, those in your wrist can retain fluid, which can increase pressure in the carpal tunnel, a bony canal in your wrist. Nerves that run through this "tunnel" may end up pinched, creating numbness; tingling, shooting or burning pain; or a dull ache.
You are one hot mama -- literally. A 20 percent metabolic rate increase throughout pregnancy can leave you begging for a cool breeze no matter what the weather is like. Distract yourself with an exercise in blind identification. Try to distinguish between baby's feet, fists, knees, and elbows -- all doing some major pushing and nudging inside of you.
baby is the size of a honeydew!
This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a honeydew) and has passed the 17-inch mark. He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.
Baby may grow up to a full inch this week alone, and his brain is developing like crazy. Pretty soon, he'll be able to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing. Also, his bones are hardening, and he's started to keep his eyes open when he's awake.
Things are good for me. I had my 33 week check up yesterday and everything looks great! My blood pressure, heart rate, and iron count are top-notch, and the results of the gluclose test came back and I'm in absolutely no danger of gestational diabetes, in fact, my blood sugar count is low enough that I'll most likely never have diabetes, which is very good considering my family medical history. As far as weight gain, I've gained approx. 2 lbs since last week, so baby is putting on the right amount of weight, as am I. Marilyn showed me how to check where the baby was and I was able to feel the baby's head! It was so cool! I even felt baby nod while I had my hands there... that type of interaction is so special. There's nothing like it.
Baby is smart, too! Already he's head-down and facing my spine, which is the easiest way for me to deliver. (Thank you, Baby! Mommy really appreciates that!) I guess that explains why his butt is always up in my face. Yeah..
So. All is well and good. Micah and I WOULD be taking pictures this weekend, but He'll be gone to Men's Retreat. So I'll be taking pictures NEXT week, at 34 weeks. I don't know.. I might take some myself this weekend if I can find the tripod. Micah moved it.. grr..
Okay. Bye for now!
