Ramblings and Rants

Well, I'm going to try my best not to rant. In fact, I'll probably not rant at all, instead I'll most like rave. Why? Because I have something to rave about. What could be so awesome that it deserves a rave? Did we win a million dollars? No. Did Caleb suddenly stand up and recite the Gettysburg Address? No. Did a litter of puppies show up on our doorstep? No. (thank goodness!)

My reason to rave is... EMILY IS HERE!!! AND CRYSTAL!!! EMILY AND CRYSTAL!!! You can read all about their trip here: http://flygirln1.livejournal.com/396957.html . Go on over and take a look, just be sure to come back!

So much has been happening in the past week, thus, the impending ramblings.

1. After a two-week stay, Grandma flew back home. I began to miss her as soon as she got in the car. I am so happy that she made the long, difficult, and tiring journey here, especially considering her recent health issues. That right there shows the love she has for me, for Micah, for Caleb, and especially for Milo (I think he was her favorite!).

2. Sunday night, sometime between 2 am and 7 am, Milo jumped out of an open two-story window and disappeared. He remained missing for 8 days.

3. Monday night, around 2 am, Micah heard a faint meow while passing the front door on his way up to bed. Upon opening the door, who should he find on the front steps but a very skinny, dirty, and LOUD Milo! Miracles of miracles, Milo found his way back home to us. We have no idea where he has been these past 8 days, but all we know is that we prayed each day, and God answered our prayers- Milo came home.

4. Yesterday morning Caleb had his "6-week checkup"... except it actually took place the day before he turned 8 weeks old! Go figure? He's now 23 1/2 inches long and weighs 12 lbs 1 oz. He's a long skinny thing, but is beginning to plump out. He has the most adorable cheeks! Not quite chickmunkish, but still a bit of chubby. Why is it that chubby is cute on babies and toddlers and just... chubby on us "grown-ups"???

5. The house is finally cleaned and unpacked! At least, the downstairs is. Caleb's room is cleaned up, with the extra boxes shoved into a corner to make way for Emily's stuff. Since Caleb still sleeps with us, especially since the move, Em's going to store her stuff in the extra room until she gets her own place. We won't talk about what condition our room is in as it became the dumping ground for everything that we didn't want to unpack or don't know where we're going to put it. Just think about a tornado going through a city dump. Essentially, chaos. And not the organized kind!

6. Alaska Ladies' Retreat is this weekend! I love LR! It's like the opening act for the church activity season. LR, then Convention, then Camp, and eventually, the Assembly! Speaking of the assembly, sadly, Micah and I won't be going this year. We wanted SO badly to be able to attend, but his grandparent's 60th anniversary is end of July and there is a huge family reunion taking place, so we'll be attending that instead as vacation time and finances simply don't allow both. The funny thing is, knowing the size of Micah's family, I almost think that the family reunion will be bigger! Ha! (And I'm only half kidding-- he has a HUGE family!)

7. Now that my kitchen is unpacked, I'm back to cooking and baking and whatnot. I'm going through a everything-homemade phase, much to Micah's delight! So far this week has featured homemade biscuits and sausage gravy and corn chowder. Both delish! I didn't have any cream of tarter for the biscuits, so they weren't quite as good as they could be, but still really tasty according to Micah. If I can learn how to make the perfect biscuit then I will make him one very happy man. Likewise, the corn chowder was very yummy. I had the rest of it for lunch today. I'll probably be making clam chowder tomorrow night with the clams that we harvested last year at 4th of July.

Well, I'd better wrap it up here. Hope you enjoy the new blog look and update!
