Hello 23 Weeks!

Your Pregnancy: Week 23

Swollen from head to toe? Increased blood flow, by now an old friend, is to blame. Consider a trip to the shoe store because loosening ligaments will cause your feet to expand even more in the weeks to come. In the meantime, lie on your left side or put your feet up when you can, stretch out your legs when you sit, and avoid sitting — or standing — in one place for long periods. Also, try to exercise regularly to increase circulation, and wear support stockings (put them on first thing in the morning) and roomy, comfortable shoes. You may be tempted to skimp on liquids to combat swelling, but you need to drink plenty of water because staying hydrated actually helps prevent fluid retention.

Your Baby is the Size of a Mango!

Your baby weighs about as much as a large mango -- just over a pound. (Length: more than 11 inches.) Baby's little face is fully formed...minus the baby fat, of course. The next task at hand for baby: sprouting two teeny-tiny nipples! Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.

From me:

This week has been absolutely exhausting for me. No matter how long I sleep, I'm still tired when I wake up. It doesn't help that I've had something going every night so I don't get in bed until 11.. 12... 1 am... This weekend I just want to sleep. That's it. Just sleep. We had another doc appointment yesterday. Baby is growing good. I've gained 5 lbs since last month, so I'm gaining the right amount of weight and the right speed for my body size. That's makes me glad. my stomach has really grown too. My fundal height, the measurement from the top of the pelvic bone to the top of the uterus has finally exceeded my actual weeks. I'm now measuring 26 cm.. woohoo! I have a baby bump! Marilyn has been letting Micah use the sonogram radar thing to listen to Baby's heartbeat and yesterday it was super easy to hear! Micah was able to find Baby right away and I could actually hear the difference between my heartbeat and Baby's (something that I've been having trouble distinguishing). The heartbeat is in the 140s, so good and steady. All in all, things are.. good. I go back for my last ultrasound on the 10th. They usually just do two ultrasounds, but I get a third one cause they need to take more pictures of Baby's face since he/she refused to look at the camera last night. That's fine by me. I welcome any chance to see our little one.

Okay. I'm going to go and try not to fall asleep for these last two hours.
