From award-winning author, Robin Jones Gunn, comes the next installment in the popular and life-changing Sisterchicks series, "Sisterchicks in Wooden Shoes", in stores May 5, 2009! (Just 3 more days!)
"Summer and Noelle, two pen pals since 4th grade, meet for the first time in the land of tulips and windmills. An abnormal mammogram sends Summer on a quest to fulfill her lifelong wish before she begins the same struggle her mother fought against breast cancer. The story of these two Sisterchicks is brimming with hope and cheer and will bring encouragement for any woman who has faced a fearful future."
On a personal note:
I am so excited about this newest book! I read my first Sisterchicks book 3 years ago and quickly gave it to my mom to read. Since then, I have moved to Alaska and there are now 3000 miles separating Momma and I, instead of the usual 10 feet. We still read all the Sisterchicks books, except now we do it in more of a book-club style, reading them along with each other so we can share in the laughter, smiles, and tears.
For Christmas I had given Momma a copy of the Sisterchicks devotional Take Flight, keeping a copy for myself. Every other weekend since then, we settle down in our comfy chairs, pick up the phone, and for an hour we are together in hearts and spirits, despite the miles between us. Momma will share the Bible scriptures while I reference the Sisterchicks quote from the books. Then each of us shares the special significance of this devotion and how it pertains to our life now.
As you can imagine, my mom and I are very close, and it's hard being so far apart. Yet, through this series, we've surpassed the mother/daughter relationship, or even that of best friends. We're all that, and more... we're Sisterchicks. And proud of it!
